How does the Emerald actually reduce fat?

Emerald’s 532 nm green wavelength creates tiny, temporary pores in the fat cell membrane — allowing stored fat to gently leak out and be metabolized or flushed naturally through your lymphatic system. Unlike heat-based or freezing technologies, the fat cell itself remains intact, preserving healthy tissue and avoiding inflammation or trauma.

Why is it beneficial to preserve the fat cells?

Healthy fat cells are essential for hormone balance and smooth, even skin texture. Emerald’s approach slims you down while maintaining natural body harmony.

What other benefits are there from Emerald laser?

Although its FDA-clearance is in relation to fat reduction treatment, case studies have shown that the Emerald Laser at 532nm, can reduce pain and inflammation. Many patients who have had Emerald Laser treatment for fat reduction, report improvement in symptoms eg sciatica, period-related symptoms etc. Further research is underway, however, note that we have the EVRL technology also from Erchonia (makers of Emerald) and this does have multiple FDA-clearances for use in the management of pain.

Why is it beneficial to preserve the fat cells?

The Emerald Laser key target is an enzyme called Cytochrome c Oxidase, which is an important protein complex found in the mitochondria of cells. When the laser light enters cells, there is a transfer of electromagnetic energy. This activates the Cytochrome C resulting in increased cellular activity, including activation of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Free Nitric Oxide (NO).

ATP fuels cellular processes, boosting immune response and accelerating wound healing.

ROS modulation activates production of specific proteins that effect repair and healing at a cellular level.

NO dilates blood vessels and thus improves circulation. This in turn increases oxygen delivery and decreases inflammation. Immune cell function is also enhanced.

What happens during the treatment?

Your first visit will include a consultation with one of our technicians who will find out more about your needs and conduct a full assessment including going over your pre-completed medical history. They will also cover all the key aspects of Emerald Laser. Body scans, photos and measurements will be taken. A food diary may also be provided to you for future completion. This is to help support you in following a healthy lifestyle but does not replace advice from a qualified expert eg nutritionist.

If a course of Emerald Laser is decided upon, you will be booked for up to 2 sessions per week. They must be at least 48 hours apart. At each session, you should wear appropriate clothing so that you can bear the treatment area to the laser device, without impedance of clothing. Goggles may be provided to you to protect your eyes (if applicable). As the laser is painless, you can sit back and relax during the 30 minute session. (Time may vary depending on indication). You may then be asked to wear a special suit which provides support to your lymphatic system to aid fat removal. This can last for up to 30 minutes. There is no downtime from either treatment.

How often can I have my Emerald sessions?

You can have Emerald Laser sessions up to two times a week, but they need to be 48 hours apart.

IS EMERALD LASER FOR ME?

The Emerald Laser is an FDA approved device that can be suitable for many people who wish to improve the shape and size of their body. It can be used on the stomach, back, thighs, hips and buttocks and can assist a healthy lifestyle to aid weight loss with people who have a high BMI – 30 / 40+.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The procedure itself is simple, and involves having the device placed over the body, emitting green light from 10 laser diodes that move around on the skin. The lasers target the fat cells, creating a pore in the cell wall which enables the fat to leak out so it can be used up naturally by the body, or flushed out through the lymphatic system. Emerald can address both large and small areas of the body, treating the front and back of the chosen region in one 30 minute session (15 minutes on each side).

IS IT SAFE?

The device is very safe. The cooling system is controlled by an electronic temperature sensor located in the processing head of the device and the temperature is controlled in real time by the machine and temperature is displayed on the screen.

Sessions are also safe and non-invasive. There is no down-time after sessions, and many clients book appointments immediately before a workout.

WHICH PART OF THE BODY CAN THE EMERALD TREAT?

During the consultation we will listen to your concerns, and carry out an assessment of the body to determine which area(s) require treatment. For most people, the Emerald laser is requested to help reduce body fat around the abdomen, hips and thighs. Other areas that can be treated include: upper arms, neck, ankles and buttocks.

FREQUENCY?

Each treatment has its own individual program, based on the results you desire. The Emerald Laser is carried out in a series of around 6 – 12 sessions, with your individual size and shape determining the course which is most suitable for you. For best results, we recommend 1-2 treatment sessions per week (minimum of approx. 48-hours apart).

It’s important to note that losing fat does not always mean losing weight, as a healthier and more active lifestyle can increase muscle mass. Whether or not you lose ‘weight’ will depend on how much fat is lost.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

The gradual fat reduction process begins almost immediately after your first procedure, but you probably won’t see noticeable gains for at least four weeks. Most clients see substantial changes in the 4 – 12 week period.

Treatment success varies from person to person. Those clients who are already living a healthy lifestyle, have reported to have better results at keeping the fat off. However, the fat CAN return to the cells IF you are not working to keep from gaining weight.
