What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a cold, restorative and therapeutic treatment used for reducing inflammation, managing pain, and increasing metabolism, which encourages weight loss. It has been popular in countries including UK, Poland, Finland and Japan since the ’70s. Recently, US athletes, celebrities, and medical professionals have embraced cryotherapy as part of their fitness, health, and wellness routines.

SPORTS, INJURY & POST-SURGERY RECOVERY
We have the science that works.

The word is out. Bay area physicians, surgeons, and chiropractors are referring their patients to Arctic Restore as part of a rehabilitation program.

A Localized Cryotherapy session is used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling in targeted areas. Unlike Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC), which stimulates cold receptors all over the body in order to trigger an internal systemic anti-inflammatory response, local cryotherapy is comparable to “icing”, although much more powerful and efficient based on our clients’ experience. Localized Cryotherapy is becoming well documented as being used for the management of pain, inflammation in targeted areas, and offers a multitude of health benefits including:

  • Reduces swelling, inflammation and muscle tension
  • Increases blood flow to the area
  • Increases joint mobility and muscle strength
  • Shortens injury or post-op recovery times
  • Heals without infection or scars

Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) takes place in a Cryosauna – a cylindrical open-topped chamber – into which the nitrogen vapour is released. During the session, blood will rush to the core and once the session is over, the blood returns to the extremities carrying newly released neurotransmitters and hormones that can dramatically lower inflammation, increase collagen levels, and boost mood are among the many benefits. To battle the cold, the body increases metabolism to create heat, which burns fat and provides a boost of energy.

  • Accelerates recovery
  • Improves strength and endurance
  • Decreases inflammation and joint swelling
  • Relieves acute and chronic pain, soreness, and fatigue
  • Boost immune system
  • Natural remedy for anxiety/depression
  • Improves sleep

Cost: 1 Credit or $45 Member, $65 Non-Member

We Offer These Cryotherapy Services

Whole Body

2-3 Minute Session

Whole Body Session

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) takes place in a Cryosauna – a cylindrical open-topped chamber – into which the nitrogen vapour is released. During the session, blood will rush to the core and once the session is over, the blood returns to the extremities carrying newly released neurotransmitters and hormones that can dramatically lower inflammation, increase collagen levels, and boost mood are among the many benefits. To battle the cold, the body increases metabolism to create heat, which burns fat and provides a boost of energy.  Cryotherapy produces the best results when 5-10 treatments are done in succession with 1-2 day separation. After, weekly treatments are ideal to maintain and improve results.  Walk-ins welcomed.

CryoFacial

10-12 Minute Session

Face + Neck Session

The healing properties of cryotherapy also apply to skin. Our Arctic Face+Neck treats the face, head, and décolleté. The treatment stimulates micro-circulation within the skin, which promotes collagen production. A series of treatments offer a reduction in wrinkles, brightening of skin and improved elasticity. The anti-aging and healing responses of CryoFacials have made it extremely popular amongst celebrities in America. Appointment required.

Local Cryo

5-8 Minute Session

Localized Session

Local cryotherapy is used as one of the most popular treatments for injuries in Europe and is covered by many medical aids. Our in-house technician applies Local Cryotherapy as part of a rehabilitation program for injuries, as well as an anti-inflammatory and pain relieving treatment in rheumatic and auto-immune diseases. Local cryotherapy speeds up recovery due to the body’s drastic response to the extreme cold. The treated area compensates by heating itself through speeding up cellular metabolism and drastically increasing blood flow, which in turn accelerates healing. Appointment required.

Thermal Shock

10-20 Minute Session

Localized Session

Cryo T-Shock Recovery is our latest addition to our services for pain management. Used for both acute and chronic conditions, the T-Shock targets a specific area of the body and penetrates deeply into the skin to help accelerate recovery and reduce pain and inflammation. These treatments are also a great tool to use for post-surgery to help heal areas of swelling and inflammation. Treatments can range from 10 to 20 minutes depending on area. Appointment required.

What to Expect Whole Body Cryotherapy

Before

Sign waiver and confirm you have no medical conditions. Make sure you do not put any lotion or extra moisture on your skin for at least an hour prior to treatment.

You will then get undressed to the level of your comfort in the changing room. Men must wear compression shorts, cotton briefs or boxers. Women can wear cotton underwear, but it is not necessary. In addition, do not wear any metal jewelry below your neck.

We will provide you with a robe to keep you covered up between the changing room and the WBC chamber. We will also provide you with the gloves, socks and rubber shoes that you will be required to wear while in the chamber

During

One of our staff members will be supervising your treatment from beginning to end. We will set up the chamber so that your head is above the rim of the chamber to ensure that you are able to breathe in enough oxygen during your treatment.

If you’re a first timer, you will be limited to two minutes during your initial session. After that, the subsequent sessions will last no more than 3 minutes.  The chamber door is never locked, so you are free to exit any time you so desire, just let the staff member know.

After

Once the three minutes are over, the technician will hand back the robe to you and you can call it a day. After the session, it’s normal to feel a little cold to the touch, but since the cooling system is dry, you will warm up almost immediately.

Usually our clients experience a release of endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevator, a lift that can last for several hours. Depending on your physical condition, you may feel immediate relief from joint and muscle pain, improved energy, and increased flexibility that can last for several hours or even days.
